Over the summer of 2025, I interned at Mavericks in Motion, a South Korea–based wellness startup. As the sole designer in the early stage, I led product design and content strategy for ROL, a community-driven routine-building app, focusing on user acquisition through engagement-driven design while conducting pre-launch QA and iterative refinements to improve usability and retention.

2 Different Approaches: Onboarding and Justification

Although there were other solutions for user acquisition, we focused on connecting users within community pages, because social relevance and peer validation are stronger drivers of engagement than standalone features.

APPROACH

Approach 1 focuses on collecting users’ interests through community onboarding and delivering more personalized information

Approach 2 is about including justification taglines on post to motivate engagement with community posts

Working on ROL taught me how to approach early-stage product design in a startup environment where resources are limited. By connecting onboarding with personalized routines and community engagement, I learned how a user-centered perspective can reinforce motivation and drive repeated use. Also, the fast-paced startup environment pushed me to iterate quickly, rather than wait for perfect solutions. Through close collaboration with developers and PM, I also learned how a design system can reduce rework and enable more effective, consistent designs.
